Kenya has established its own set of rules, regulations, and procedures for granting permits to aircraft intending to land or enter its airspace. Whether it's a private flight, general aviation, charter flight, scheduled or non-scheduled operation, passenger or cargo trip, or a technical or traffic landing, Prior Permission is mandatory, requiring the application procedures to include complete flight information and aircraft documents.
For Cargo Operation Flights in Kenya, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requires specific documents to be submitted. These include crew licenses and medical certificates, an Air Waybill (AWB) for the cargo being transported, and a General Declaration (GENDEC) that includes details about the cargo, such as its nature and quantity.
The issued overflight permit number must be inserted in Item 18 of the submitted Flight Plan.
Officially, there is a processing fee of "50 USD" imposed for the issuance of Kenya Overflight Permits.
Kenya overflight permits are valid for a duration of +72 hours from their initially requested schedule.
The airspace of Kenya is currently organized within one flight information region (FIR).
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) will directly issue air navigation bills to the company that submits the overflight permit requests.
The working hours of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority are from 0530Z to 1400Z.
