India has its own set of rules, regulations, and procedures for permits required by aircraft intending to land or enter their airspace. This applies to various types of operations, including private flights, general aviation, charter flights, scheduled or non-scheduled operations, passenger or cargo trips, as well as technical or traffic landings.
For flights originating from or destined to certain countries such as China, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Somalia, and Sudan, specific lead times for overflight and landing permits will be applied. For other countries, normal lead times will be applied.
In India, if a flight intends to operate earlier than the approved schedule, it is necessary to reconfirm the permit with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Otherwise, the Overflight permit remains valid for a period of 48 hours from the approved schedule.
India's airspace is currently divided into four Flight Information Regions (FIR).
The India Civil Aviation Authority will issue air navigation bills directly to the Airline/Operator through "IATA."
The working hours of the India Civil Aviation Authority are from 0430Z to 1200Z.
