Overflight Permits in Taiwan’s International Operations
Overflight permits are a crucial aspect of business aviation operations in Taiwan. The Taiwan Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) mandates that all aircraft, including private non-revenue and charter flights, must obtain overflight permits when transiting Taiwanese airspace. The CAA permit office operates around the clock, including holidays, ensuring accessibility.
To secure an overflight permit, operators must provide essential information such as the operator’s name and address, as well as complete crew and passenger details. Additionally, the noise certificate and Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) from the aircraft manual must be submitted as part of the overflight request. Once the permit is approved, operators will receive a confirmation, which must be included in the flight plan’s remarks section 18.
It’s important to note that overflying Chinese airspace en route to Taiwan should be avoided, and flying to China should not involve overflying Taiwan airspace, except for medical emergency or air ambulance flights. No such restrictions exist for flights between Taiwan and Hong Kong or Macau, provided that the route does not cross mainland China.
Landing Permits in Taiwan's International Operations
Landing permits are a mandatory requirement for all aircraft, including private non-revenue and charter operations, when planning to land in Taiwan. These permits are processed by the Taiwan Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA), and the permit office is available 24/7, even on holidays.
To obtain a landing permit, operators must provide specific details to the CAA, including the complete schedule, aircraft tail number, operator name and address, full crew and passenger information, and a designated business contact. Additionally, the purpose of the flight and a local business contact’s information must be provided to the CAA before a landing permit is issued. Required documentation comprises the noise certificate, Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) from the aircraft manual, and a copy of worldwide insurance. Due to noise control charges in Taiwan, operators must supply the Effective Perceived Noise in Decibels (EPNdB) for the aircraft.
Operators should ensure that the local business contact’s full name, title, and company details, along with complete contact information, are provided. This business contact is responsible for creating a sponsor letter for the landing permit. It’s worth noting that the worldwide insurance does not need to be sent in advance but will be verified upon arrival by local authorities.
