Overflight Permits in Cyprus’ International Operations

When planning overflight operations in Cyprus, it’s important to note that permits are required for the entire Nicosia FIR, encompassing the entire airspace of the island. European Union (EU)-registered aircraft benefit from automatic permit approvals, but operators of other nationalities must request permits from the Cyprus Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Ensure your permit application includes comprehensive details such as full crew and passenger information, aircraft specifications, and a complete schedule. Unlike some destinations, you do not need to provide local business contact information when operating to or over Cyprus. Permits are typically valid for a window of approximately three days. To streamline the approval process, it is advisable to specify the purpose of your visit and the relationship of each passenger with the aircraft or operator. Your chosen ground handler can assist in providing this information in advance to avoid any objections from local authorities. Currently, there are no cabotage restrictions for Cyprus.

Landing Permits in Cyprus’ International Operations

For landing operations in Cyprus, it’s essential to obtain the necessary permits. Cyprus has three primary airports, namely Larnaca (LCLK), Paphos (LCPH), and Akrotiri (LCRA). LCLK and LCPH are 24/7 airports of entry (AOE), offering continuous access to aircraft support services without the need for airport slots or prior permission (PPR). These airports are suitable for technical stops by operators passing through the region. LCRA, on the other hand, is a domestically operated airfield under military control, requiring a 48-hour lead time for obtaining a mandatory PPR. Credit arrangements for services can be made at all three airports with prior notice. It’s crucial to note that Nicosia (LCEN), situated in the Turkish-occupied territory of Cyprus, is not recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Turkish registered aircraft traveling between Turkey and Cyprus may use LCEN, but it is off-limits to all other aircraft.
