What You Should Know About Portland International Jetport (PWM) Before You Operate
Portland International Jetport (IATA: PWM, ICAO: KPWM) is a public airport situated two miles (3 km) west of downtown Portland, Maine, United States. It is owned and operated by the City of Portland, serving as a key transportation hub for the region.
The airport features two runways. Runway 11/29 is the longer of the two, measuring 7,200 feet (2,195 meters) with an asphalt surface, while Runway 18/36 is 6,100 feet (1,859 meters) long, also surfaced with asphalt. In 2023, the Jetport served 2,218,441 passengers, with 75,459 aircraft operations recorded for the year ending May 31, 2021. Additionally, the airport handled 19,449,627 pounds of cargo in 2018 and had 41 based aircraft as of 2021. Portland International Jetport has one main terminal divided into four concourses: B, C, D, and E, collectively housing a total of 60 gates. The terminal is equipped to handle both passenger and cargo operations efficiently. Noise abatement procedures are in effect for landings on Runway 11 and departures from Runway 29. During snow removal operations, touch-and-go landings are prohibited. Aircraft using gates 1-8 must push back onto Taxiway A, while those at gate 1A must push back onto Taxiway C. Pushback operations require pilots to contact Ground Control on 121.9 and to confirm whether they have received clearance for Alpha or Charlie prior to initiating pushback.
