Tunisia, as a country, has its own specific rules, regulations, and procedures for granting permits to aircraft wishing to land or enter its airspace. It is mandatory to obtain Prior Permission, which involves submitting a comprehensive application with complete flight information and aircraft documents.
The Tunisia Civil Aviation Authority is commonly referred to as DGAC, an acronym for "Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile" in French, which is the official language of Tunisia. According to the Tunisia CAA Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), any aircraft owner or operator intending to fly in Tunisian airspace must request Tunisia overflight clearance from the Air Transport Department at least 48 working hours before the scheduled departure. It is important to include AFTN (Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network) information in the flight plan, and an overfly permit from Tunisia is required.
If you are planning to conduct a passenger flight landing or a technical stop in Tunisia, the Tunisia Airports Authority has its own regulations regarding the issuance of Tunisia Overflight permits. Typically, there are charges involved, including Route Navigation Facility Charges for overflight and landing and parking charges for aircraft making stops.
The issued overflight permit number must be included in Item 18 of the submitted Flight Plan.
The official Tunisia Overflight Permit number is DGAC 20/007/08. Notably, there are no CAA processing fees for the issuance of Tunisia Overflight Permits.
The Tunisia CAA will directly issue the air navigation bill to the airline or operator.
The working hours of the Tunisia Civil Aviation Authority are from 0700Z to 1200Z.
Jet A-1 and Avgas aviation fuels are generally available at Tunisia's airports.
