Overflight Permits in Niue’s International Operations
Niue Island is a self-governing state in free association with New Zealand, located in the South Pacific Ocean. It has a single airport, Niue International Airport (IATA: IUE, ICAO: NIUE), which serves as the main gateway for visitors and cargo. Niue Island does not require overflight permits for flights passing through its airspace. However, it is advisable to file a flight plan with the Niue Air Traffic Services (ATS) at least 24 hours before the intended flight. The flight plan should include the following information:
- Aircraft identification
- Aircraft type and equipment
- Departure aerodrome and time
- Cruising speed and level
- Route of flight
- Destination aerodrome and estimated time of arrival
- Total estimated elapsed time
- Fuel endurance
- Number of persons on board
- Any other information required by the ATS
The Niue ATS operates from 1700Z to 0700Z (0600 to 2000 local time) daily.
Landing Permits in Niue’s International Operations
Travelers who intend to land in Niue Island for flight operations must also obtain a landing permit from the Niue Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). The landing permit application should be submitted at least 10 working days before the planned flight and should include the following documents:
- A copy of the aircraft certificate of registration
- A copy of the aircraft certificate of airworthiness
- A copy of the aircraft insurance certificate showing worldwide coverage or country-specific coverage
- A copy of the pilot license and medical certificate
- A copy of the flight plan
- A letter of invitation or confirmation from the host or sponsor in Niue Island
- A payment receipt for the landing fees
The landing permit application can be sent by email to Niue CAA. The landing fees are NZD 100 for aircraft up to 5,700 kg and NZD 200 for aircraft above 5,700 kg. The landing permit is valid for one entry and exit only and must be presented to the immigration and customs officers upon arrival.
