In Nicaragua, aircraft seeking to land or enter their airspace must adhere to the country's specific rules, regulations, and procedures for obtaining permits.

It is mandatory to obtain Prior Permission, and the application process requires comprehensive flight information and aircraft documents. The authority responsible for overseeing aviation activities in Nicaragua is the Nicaragua Civil Aviation Authority.

According to the Nicaragua Civil Aviation Authority's Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP), any aircraft owner or operator intending to fly in Nicaragua's airspace must request overflight clearance from the Air Transport Department at least 48 working hours prior to the scheduled departure. Including the AFTN (Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network) address in the flight plan is necessary, but only an overfly permit from Nicaragua is required.

For passenger flights or technical stops, the Nicaragua Airports Authority has its own regulations for issuing Nicaragua Overflight permits, which typically involve payment. The charges usually include Route Navigation Facility Charges for overflight, as well as landing and parking fees for aircraft making stopovers.

When submitting a flight plan, the issued overflight permit number must be inserted in Item 18. The overflight permit number for Nicaragua is IAC/2678/2020. There is an official processing fee of "100 USD CAA" for obtaining the Nicaragua Overflight Permit. These permits are valid for a period of 72 hours from the initially requested schedule.

Nicaragua's airspace currently falls under one Flight Information Region (FIR). The Nicaragua Civil Aviation Authority operates 24 hours a day. Any air navigation bills related to the overflight permit request will be issued directly to the local agent who submitted the request.
