Bhutan has its own set of rules, regulations, and procedures for obtaining permits to land or enter their airspace, regardless of whether it is a private flight, general aviation, charter flight, scheduled or non-scheduled operation, passenger or cargo trip, or a technical or traffic landing. Prior Permission is mandatory, and the application process requires complete flight information and aircraft documents.

When submitting the Flight Plan, it is important to insert the issued overflight permit number in Item 18.

The overflight permit responsible authority is the Bhutan Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA).

There are no Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) processing fees officially applied for the issuance of Bhutan Overflight Permits.

The Bhutan overflight permits remain valid for a period of +72 hours from the initially requested schedule.

Currently, Bhutan's airspace is divided into one flight information region (FIR).

The Bhutan Civil Aviation Authority will issue air navigation bills directly to the company that submits the overflight permit requests.

The working hours of the Bhutan Civil Aviation Authority are from 0300Z to 1100Z.

Jet A-1 aviation fuel is available at airports in Bhutan.
