Facilitating Business Flight Operations with Overflight and Landing Permissions at Guyana International Airports

For all types of flights, including private, general aviation, charter, scheduled, or non-scheduled operations, passenger or cargo trips, and technical or traffic landings, prior permission is mandatory.

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and compliant operation of aviation activities within Guyana. Operators intending to fly in Guyana airspace must submit a request for overflight clearance to the Guyana Air Transport Department at least 48 working hours before the scheduled flight departure. The request should include the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN) address on the flight plan. In the case of Guyana, only an overfly permit is required.

For passenger flights or technical stops, the Guyana Airports Authority has its own regulations for issuing flight permits, and there are usually charges involved, including route navigation facility charges for overflight and landing, as well as parking charges. Guyana is a signatory to the Chicago Convention, and flights and crews must comply with ICAO general rules of international air traffic and regulations for the transport of troops, equipment, materials, and dangerous goods.

Operators should insert the issued overflight permit number in Item 18 of the submitted Flight Plan. Importantly, there are no official processing fees applied by the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority for the issuance of Guyana Overflight Permits. Guyana overflight permits are valid for a duration of +48 hours from the initially requested schedule. The Guyana CAA will directly issue the air navigation bill to the airline/operator. Finally, note that the working hours of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority are from 1200Z to 2000Z. Operators should take this into account when submitting their requests and conducting flight operations in Guyana.
